Ghana is diverse, booming, English-speaking, and on a direct flight from New York. Most Americans have no idea. I went to find out why this country keeps pulling the diaspora back — and I came home with an answer I wasn’t expecting.
From the immigrant neighborhood of Nima, where six West African countries share one block, to a hilltop pub in Aburi where they opened a whole fish tableside and I forgot to keep filming — to the fishermen of Teshie, to a crocodile that has no reason to tolerate you, to 130 feet above an ancient rainforest, to Brynx Haven on the Atlantic coast — to Cape Coast Castle, and the door they renamed.
